Let’s learn together.

As a child, it’s easy to feel like there’s always something you can’t do. Using a knife, cutting with scissors, stirring the soup on the stove - the list can feel endless.

Our philosophy

We believe, as Maria Montessori believed, that children are asking adults to “help me do it by myself.” Children are capable beings and need to be trained and trusted to do things adults often believe they cannot do. At Selah, students are invited to care for the spaces they occupy by using brooms, dustpans, vacuums, and mops. They will be trained to safely cut, chop and shred food using kitchen tools. They will experience the joy of smelling, touching and tasting the food they make. Something your child will hear often as we show them how to do adult-like things is “first me, then you.” In this, students learn they are capable, feel respected, and are encouraged towards independence.
